There are many types of “standard” types of vertical fences. The most common is made of Southern Pine wood. This vertical fence has “dog ears” on the top. The pickets are called “dog ears” because they are on top of the picket and cut only a little on each side of the picket. There still is a flat top and they look like a “dogs ear”.

Standard vertical fences are built using posts, pickets and horizontal boards. They do not have and trim. They are considered the least expensive of many six foot privacy fences.
